Ever since their world-shattering war ended, the slumbering mecha called 'Giga' have been both gods and habitats for the surviving humans. Then disgraced engineer Evan Calhoun discovers a murdered Giga, and the very fabric of society starts unraveling around him. A GIANT MECH MURDER MYSTERY. Nobody knows why the skyscraper-sized mechs known as ‘Giga’ fought their bitter, centuries’ long war. All they know is that when the fighting finally stopped, the dormant Giga became humanity’s new habitat and new gods in one. When disgraced engineer Evan Calhoun finds an apparently murdered Giga, his society and the fascistic tech-centered religious order that controls it are rapidly thrown into chaos.. From writer Alex Paknadel (Friendo, Turncoat, Incursion) and rising star John Le comes another Vault & White Noise partnership about what happens after the mechs stop fighting. Collects the complete five-issue series. You do NOT want to miss it." -- James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children, House of Slaughter, Department of Truth)
I give GIGA ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!
I love the premise of this captivating story. These colossal robots, known as Gigas, serve as the abodes for humanity following a devastating war that has reshaped our world into what it is today. These awe-inspiring machines have settled within the human cities, transforming into shelters and sanctuaries for the surviving population. As we provide maintenance and repairs for these colossal beings, their purpose remains somewhat uncertain.
Within this world, religion has emerged, accompanied by a sort of bible, chronicling the epic tale of the Gigas and their salvation of humanity. In this narrative, the Gigas have ascended to the status of gods, presiding over our existence.
The mystery unfolds when Evan, the main character, a wheelchair-bound engineer formerly trained to care for the Gigas, discovers a solitary Giga situated beyond the city limits. The robot's chest has been violently torn open. Evan ventures to this location in search of components for an AI project he and his former friend Aiko had developed. Meanwhile, the Dusters, a group of rebels residing in the wilderness, who reject the faith in Gigas, become the prime suspects in the murder of this deified Giga. Not only has the Giga been ravaged, but all the humans inside have met a gruesome fate, consumed by flames. However, Evan perceives peculiar details: the Giga's destruction was not caused by a bomb, its hands bear signs of damage, and its chest appears as if it attempted to expel an unseen force from within. A true enigma indeed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this compelling story and eagerly await the next installment. The illustrations are truly remarkable, vividly capturing the essence of the Gigas and their human counterparts, endowing each character with a distinct personality. The choice of colors adds an element of forbidden allure to the artwork.
Overall, this comic is an outstanding piece of work that will undoubtedly captivate enthusiasts of TRANSFORMERS or Mecha Anime.
