My Review

When Mel’s would-be assassin ends up dead in a hotel room, her world spirals into chaos. Her ex, David—the love of her life—could offer support, but how does one explain attempted murder as a family tradition?

At its core, Family Trust is a fast-paced thriller that uncovers the secrets of a wealthy Australian dynasty. With generations of questionable decisions haunting them, this family plays by its own rules—and those rules are messy, morally grey, and downright deadly.

What Makes Family Trust Stand Out:

  1. Strong Female Protagonists:

Mel shines as a deeply layered character—fiercely intelligent, emotionally vulnerable, and unapologetically tough. Her journey is riveting, and her complexities make her relatable despite her extraordinary circumstances.

  2. Tightly Woven Plot:

Wilson masterfully balances family drama with a thriller’s breakneck pace. Every twist feels earned, with secrets unfolding in ways that keep readers guessing until the final pages.

  3. Humor and Wit:

Amid the dark themes of betrayal, murder, and family secrets, Wilson sprinkles moments of humor that provide much-needed relief.

  4. Realistic Yet Unique Setting:

The backdrop of Australia adds an intriguing layer of authenticity while offering a refreshing change from typical thriller locales.

What I Loved:

The interplay of humor with suspense was a standout for me. It’s rare for thrillers to deliver such well-timed comedic moments without losing the tension, but Wilson strikes the perfect balance. Additionally, Mel’s emotional struggle and her flawed, yet enduring connection with David added depth to the story.

What I Didn’t Love:

While the narrative is gripping, a few side characters felt underdeveloped compared to the richly drawn leads. A bit more backstory for these characters would have enhanced the emotional stakes.

Final Thoughts:

Family Trust by Peter Wilson is a rare gem—a thriller with heart, humor, and unforgettable characters. Fans of family sagas and suspenseful storytelling will find themselves hooked from page one. Whether you’re a seasoned thriller enthusiast or new to the genre, this book promises an engaging and satisfying read.
